🧵What You’ll Need
2 Large T-Shirts (mix colors for extra flair!)
Fabric Scissors
Chalk Marker
Measuring Tape
✨ Variation: Make the fringe extra long for a mohawk mane moment!
✂️ Step-by-Step: How to Make a Rockin’ Beanie
Step 1: Measure & Mark
Start by measuring the circumference of your head at its widest point. Divide that number by two — that’s your magic number, X!
Step 2: Draw Your Beanie Shape
About 10 inches from the top of one T-shirt, draw a slightly horizontal line X inches long. Then, sketch an arc above the line that peaks about 10 inches high. From the bottom of that X, draw a long 3-inch-wide rectangle all the way down to the shirt’s bottom hem.
(Tip: Make the fringe extra long if you want to go full rockstar with a mohawk mane!)
Step 3: Cut It Out
Cut along your lines through both layers of the shirt. Then place the cutout on top of your second T-shirt and cut around it — now you’ve got two identical pairs.
Step 4: Layer & Prep for Fringe
Layer your pairs so the right sides of the backs are facing each other (the T-shirt graphics should face out). Line up the edges and make small snips ¾ inch in from the arc edge, spacing them about 1½ inches apart.
Step 5 - 7: Prep strips & Knot It Together
Cut a bunch of 1½" x 5" strips from your leftover fabric. Fold one strip in half and push the loop halfway through the first hole, then pull the ends through the loop to tie a cow hitch knot. This connects the sides of your hat — no sewing needed!
Alternate your colors as you go for a fun pattern until the hat’s sides are fully connected.
Step 8 & 9: Braid the Finishing Touches
Cut the 3" strips at the bottom into three pairs of fringe on each side. Braid them, knot them, and trim your mohawk to your liking.
And just like that — you’ve made your own No-Sew Rockin’ Beanie from two old tees
