You can make a sanitizing solution at home by using bleach and water.
ingredients & STeps
Place 4 cups of water into spray bottle.
Add 1 teaspoon of unscented bleach. Be careful not to get bleach on your clothing
Mix well!
Use the solution to sanitize countertops or cutting boards.
Spray the solution on a clean countertop or cutting board and let the solution stand for about 2 minutes.
Then wipe the solution off the cutting board or countertop with a paper towel and throw the paper towel away.
Use the sanitizing solution only for cutting board, countertops, or other cooking utensils. NEVER SPRAY IT on food, including fresh fruits and vegetables.
When you can no longer smell the chlorine in the bleach, the solution is no longer effective.
In a given year, about one out of every six people will get a foodborne illness. While everyone is at risk, some people are at a higher risk than others. These include:
Infants and very young children (under age 5)
Pregnant women
Older adults (over age 60)
People with a weak immune system
People with chronic diseases such as diabetes
Most foodborne illnesses are caused by eating prepared or perishable foods that were not handled safely. Prepared foods include cooked foods made with beans, cheese, eggs, meat, milk, pasta, poultry, or rice. Perishable foods include most foods that spoil easily and include prepared foods as well as bagged salad, cheese, cut fruit, eggs, milk, and ready-to-eat deli or lunchmeats. Just about any food can cause a foodborne illness if it is not handled safely.
