Snacks are good for kids because they help them stay focused at school and on homework; however, to many kids/ teens, a snack is a bag of chips/cookies or some other low-nutrient food. So, let’s revamp these snacks! Offer instead a snack that contains protein and fiber – these snacks are filling and sustainable! Plus, they add quality to their diet. Try some of these simple yet healthy snack combinations…
What Time is It?
Snack time can get tricky, and unplanned random snacking can lead to problems. Therefore, when in doubt, plan it out!
When timed correctly, snacks can help kids get the energy and nutrients they need.
Snack Time!
1. Rule of thumb: offer snacks a few hours after one meal ends and about 1 - 2 hours before the next meal.
2. Postponing snacks a few hours after a meal will help kids have an appetite during mealtime and not begging for more food just after the meal ends.
*Be consistent with planned meals & snacks throughout the day!
Snack Smarter
Be prepared for hungry tummies by placing produce in plain sight.
This will help make snacks more accessible as well as create better and more nutritious eating habits.
Where would you rather place produce - on the kitchen counter or on the kitchen table?
